Racing at PSC

Member wanting to race? Non-member but looking to join in the action? Read on...

We have an action-packed racing programme which runs from early April to late November/early December most years! Racing for all club members is run (almost) every Sunday, with Friday evening racing for Novices and Intermediate sailors between mid May and late August. Other events may also be advertised and run.

Please see our latest race calendar, for the 2018 racing season for more details and watch out for updates.

Sunday Racing starts at 11am on the water.

Typically members show up between 9:30 and 10:15 to get ready.

Sunday club racing takes place in Peterhead Bay of refuge, but on occasion we leave the harbour and run some longer and bigger races in Sandford Bay. However, we feel we can cater for everyone from Novices to experienced Open event competitors.

Race Results for our Spring Series can be found here.

Not into the sailing but still wanting to get involved? No worries, there are Race management and Safety boat activities...and full training is available for anyone interested.

We also have a nice fleet of dinghies which include Toppers, Optimists, Wayfarers and a Laser 2000, expertly managed by our partner organisation Aberdeenshire Sailing Trust. These beauties are available for hire by club members and details of the cost of hiring a club boat can be checked with AST's principal, Angie (This email address is being protected from spambots. For further information on hiring a club boat for racing or for a pootle about the bay, please initially contact the membership secretary at This email address is being protected from spambots. This section is still being developed but when complete you will be able to view race results regularly. In the meantime we have now uploaded our general Sailing Instructions for club racing and you can access those here.

Boat Class Handicaps

With some boats being faster than others, we use the RYA Porthsmouth Yardstick (PY) system so we can put everyone on a level playing field and place them based on their skill, not the size of their sail/boat. Check out this link for more details: Boat Handicaps for 2018 (Excel file) - available soon.
